This fabulous piece above is a 18th Century Italian Secretaire with exotic 19th Century decoration, circa 1725. This Italian piece has a simple single drawer slant front case covered with circa 1825-1840 elaborate painted lacquer decoration. The legs and writing surface very stable and usable. The exterior of this secretaire present a world of imaginative and playful renderings. Raised relief Chinoiserie ornamentation depicts exotic, imagined scenes of pagodas, birds, a rhinoceros, rabbits, a rooster, tiger, lion, snake, monkeys, deer, dogs, a turtle, and insects. The interior of this secretaire is painted and decorated with a repeating floral pattern with a small fitted shelf on top.Very credible paint and decoration with little over paint and no enhancement.
